Company services
Change your registered office and where your records are kept
Moving office or switching to a registered office address service? Tell Companies House with an AD01, and manage where your company registers are kept. We review and file for you.
Who needs it and when it is due
Your registered office is the official address for post from Companies House, HMRC and other bodies, and it appears on the public register. It must be a physical address in the same part of the UK where the company is registered: England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
Tell Companies House when it changes. The new address takes effect when Companies House registers the change, so keep the old address available until then.
Statutory registers, such as the register of members, are normally kept at the registered office. A company may instead keep them at a single alternative inspection location (SAIL) and tell Companies House with AD02. AD03 moves registers to the SAIL address and AD04 moves them back.
What we file for you
- AD01: change of registered office address
- AD02: setting or changing the SAIL address
- AD03: moving registers to the SAIL address
- AD04: moving registers back to the registered office
- A summary to check before filing, and your company record updated on acceptance

What you need to provide
- The new registered office address, in the same part of the UK as the company is registered
- Confirmation that the company is entitled to use the address
- For a SAIL: the address and which registers are kept there
Need an address? Our registered office address service gives you a London registered office and handles official post.
When does the change take effect?
When Companies House registers it, not when you submit. Keep the old address available until then.
Can the registered office be a PO box?
No. It must be a physical address where documents can be delivered.
What is a SAIL address?
A single alternative inspection location where certain company records can be kept and inspected instead of at the registered office.
Can I move my company to another part of the UK?
The registered office must stay in the part of the UK where the company is registered, so a move between England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland is a different process. Contact us.
My company was not formed with Sure Formation. Can you still file for it?
Yes. Add the company to your account with its company number and Companies House authentication code, then start the filing from the company page. The authentication code is your proof of authority to file.
Do I need to be signed in?
Yes. Filings are made from your account so your answers, declarations and documents stay private. If you are signed out you are asked to sign in and are then brought back.
